Growing Info, follow in order:
Scarification: Soak in hot tap water, let stand in water for 6 hours.
Stratification: cold stratify for 90 days.
Germination: can be sown outdoors in the fall for spring germination, sow seed 3/4" deep, tamp the soil, keep moist, mulch the seed bed.

Physical Characteristics  Elaeagnus umbellata is a deciduous Shrub growing to 4.5 m (14ft) by 4 m (13ft) at a medium rate. It is hardy to zone 3 and is not frost tender. It is in flower from May to June, and the seeds ripen from Sep to November. The flowers are hermaphrodite (have both male and female organs) and are pollinated by Bees.It can fix Nitrogen. It is noted for attracting wildlife. The plant prefers light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils, requires well-drained soil and can grow in nutritionally poor soil.The plant prefers acid, neutral and basic (alkaline) soils..It cannot grow in the shade.It requires dry or moist soil and can tolerate drought.The plant can tolerate maritime exposure.
