The fruit is a dry capsule 15-25 mm long, containing numerous small seeds .There are two subspecies : Rhododendron ponticum subsp. ponticum . Bulgaria east to Georgia. Rhododendron ponticum subsp. baeticum (Boiss. & Reut.) Hand.-Mazz. Spain, Portugal.
