Physical Characteristics  Alcea rosea is a PERENNIAL growing to 2.4 m (7ft) by 0.6 m (2ft in). It is hardy to zone 6 and is not frost tender. It is in flower from Jul to September, and the seeds ripen from Aug to October. The flowers are hermaphrodite (have both male and female organs) The plant prefers light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils.The plant prefers acid, neutral and basic (alkaline) soils..It cannot grow in the shade.It requires dry or moist soil.
