Physical Characteristics Â Pinus parviflora is an evergreen Tree growing to 15 m (49ft) by 6 m (19ft) at a medium rate. It is hardy to zone 5. It is in leaf 12-Jan, and the seeds ripen in October. The flowers are monoecious (individual flowers are either male or female, but both sexes can be found on the same plant) and are pollinated by Wind.The plant is not self-fertile. The plant prefers light (sandy) and medium (loamy) soils, requires well-drained soil and can grow in nutritionally poor soil.The plant prefers acid and neutral soils..It cannot grow in the shade.It requires dry or moist soil and can tolerate drought.

Pinus parviflora is an outdoor bonsai needed a dormant winter period. The needles are a half inch in length in groups of five and grow in a brilliant bright green color in tufts on branch tips. The bark is a brown with interesting texture making this tree a desirable bonsai. A shoe growing species, the Japanese White pine, will live an extremely long life. It needs some special care but will create a striking landscape plant.

Please this tree outside in a sunny spot. Water more in warm weather but do not water if the soil is damp or cool. Branch pruning and wiring should be addressed in late autumn.
