* Single 1 1/2" yellow, blue, white, green, or purple flowers on long stems in spring, the color range is even broader in cultivated varieties, leaves to 10", likes part shade and moist fertile soil, native to Europe and Turkey.
* The young leaves can be eaten raw or cooked as a potherb, added to soups etc. A mild flavour,though the texture is a bit tough. The leaves are often available all through the winter. Flowers- raw or cooked. They make an attractive garnish to salads, and can also be used as a cookedvegetable or in conserves etc. Picked when first opened, the flowers are fermented with waterand sugar to make a very pleasant and intoxicating wine.
